Skill and Technique-

Technical skill is the most apparent and measurable aspect of art. As I observe the work of art I will determine how skillfully it was created in comparison with other works.

Inherent meaning-

Art is powerful, not just for its beauty or the talent needed for its creation, but because it can evoke emotion, make statements, or challenge preconceived ideas.

Uniqueness-

Good art either explores new subjects, or views old subjects in a way that hasn’t been seen before. When I look at art, I ask myself, "What (if anything) is different in the work from all the other art I’ve seen?"

Fulfilled intent-

What is the Artist trying to say? Can I understand the art without explanation?  A correlating title is beneficial.

Side note: Good art should appeal to many different kinds of people.

Types of Poetry

Structural details:

Free verse -It has neither rhyme nor meter. However, free verse is not just a paragraph of prose with the line breaks in funny places. It has an internal rhythm, not meter but a different sort of pattern. It pulls you onward through the lines. It might use techniques such as alliteration, consonance, and assonance to make the words sing and dance.

Blank verse- It has meter, but no rhyme.

Traditional verse- What most of us think of when we think of poetry. Certain lines of it rhyme in a set pattern, and there is also a consistent pattern of syllables and stress within each line.

Rhyme and Meter

Technical merit of a poem, read it aloud. Will it flow freely off my tongue?

GOOD LUCK
